I know this whole kidanapping thing started in the Niger Delta (we hail o!!!!!) as a form of revolution against the exploitation of the Niger Delta people by multinational oil companies. Anyway, as we all know, it quickly degenerated into a full fledged business venture where people kidnapped solely for money and no social cause whatsoever. As usual, our ibo brothers not wanting any business opportunity to pass them by, picked up the traded and started kidnapping nollywood stars (for what biko.....a revolution in nollywood because who is discriminating against who *hiss*?......na so the film pain dem reach?) and then it moved to politicians' family members. Now it has come to lagos.
First it was the avi cenna little girl who was kidnapped by the house boy (has been found), then it was one boy and girl like that that were kidnapped leaving a club (both have been found) and then now its a 10month old boy by name Enioluwa Odegbaike allegedly kidnapped by the housemaid and the it is Arisekola Alao's son or nephew or something kidnapped in VI. Obviously, one very consistent factor is that these people kidnapped in lagos (and I think in many of the cases in the east as well) have been kidnapped by family members.
Ok so one group of people will say: "Ehn well when this rich people were enjoying their money and giving us only the crumbs to eat, what did they expect us to do? Shey us too we won't find a way to make it big in this life abi we told them that mansion in banana lsland no dey hungry us too? It is good for them." Majority of the people in this group are lazy bums who expect to sit down, do nothing and live like Bill Gates. Well newsflash for such NFAs: if Brother Uchendu and Egbon Kola didn't hustle for their money, you won't see the crumbs you are enjoying today ole. You are not entitled to anything so whatever so have gotten so far is from the graciousness of their hearts.
The next group will say: "Olori I am not really a bad person o. Na condition make crayfish bend. See I have all these responsibilities already. As a man(or woman) you know I am expected to be able to fend for my future family. With the salary I earn from this oga and madam, there is no way I will be able to accomplish much in this life." I kinda feel for this group of people (Sharon's (the kidnapped avi-cenna girl) houseboy-turned-kidnapper falls into this group). However, that is no excuse for kidnapping. Ill gotten wealth is no wealth at all. And as they say, do unto others as you want others to do unto you.
My advice to prevent kidnapping: since a lot of these kidnappings seem to be money related, try as much as possible to spread the love and empowerment (I didn't say throw money at people. I mean give people a chance to fend for themselves as well) around. Get rid of the bums in your life because they will keep pulling you down and eventually kidnapping you and your kids. I know this can be hard when they are family members. And Egbon Fashola, please look into the matter as the police needs to address the issue of kidnapping in lagos with immediate effect and automatic alacrity. Like our ibo brothers, lagosians are hustlers as well so if the kidnapping business looks lucrative enough, they will join o!!!
