The only good thing about the Carling Cup

Van Persie's breathtaking goal I promised (sorry no audio)

Oscars red carpet: "Werking" for me

Mila Kunis: I love the colour and the lace (i think its lace sha) kinda adds something more to it

Jennifer Hudson: I'm not exactly sure if its the dress I love or the way she looks in the dress

Oscars red carpet: not "werking" for me

Helen Bonham Carter: The hair looks weird, the apkoche top doesn't work well with the bottom.....

Jennifer Lawrence: The dress isn't that bad, just too simple for the Oscars

Oscars 2011

So I'm not too big on the whole Oscars thing (except the films that I actually watched and the fashion) but in honor of my bestest (yes i know say no b correct english) lecturer, I decided to post something. She just absolutely loves the Oscars and I do not think she ever misses it. The only nominated film I saw was the Social Network even though I now think Mark Zuckerberg is a major jerk. However, I loved the movie. The King's Speech was another big winner at this year's Oscars. It's supposedly a film about Queen Elizabeth's father who was (I presume he is dead o) a stammerer. Looks like a good movie so I may see it. Inception won a few things and I have heard good things about the movie as well. When I am in the mood to watch American films, I may "sheck" dat one out too.

Getting a driver's license in 9ja wasn't dis hard o!

So I am lazily trying to study for my driving permit test and I was thinking to my self what the point was of going through all this stress for a driver's license. I drive in 9ja just fine and so far I haven't killed anyone. In 9ja it is jungle justice on the road so if I survived that then no cause for alarm now. Well think again o. According to the World Health Organization (yes I did my research), these are the world's most dangerous countries to drive in:

1. Eritrea
2. Cook Islands
3. Egypt
4. Libya
5. Afghanistan
6. Iraq
7. Niger (tie)
7.  Angola (tie)
9. United Arab Emirates
10. The Gambia

I hear they want to start doing permit test and road skills test in 9ja With 6 of the 10 countries being African, that is probably a welcomed idea.

***Egbon Fashola, I know you are trying small small but driving test is only one quarter of the problem. Better roads pls. Ese gan ni sir!

Another trophyless season?......:(

With tears in my eyes and pain in my heart, I announce that Arsenal (I am a crazy Arsenal fan o) once again has lost the Carling cup final to Birmingham. Of all teams o!!!! To even add salt to injury, it was obafemi martins of all people that scored the winning goal after that useless defender of ours Koscelny abi ki lon pe miscommunicated with the keeper to make a very costly error. Obafemi didn't play anything sensible during world cup o, it is here he is showing his power. The match just weak me no be small. This no be match wey we suppose lose! Wetin pain me pass be say I wake up early for this match o and baba Wenger no even try with the rubbish substitutions im make *hiss*. Anyway sha, when I find a video of Van Persie's wondefulous equalizer (the only good thing about this yeye match), I shall post it.

***by the way Arsenal has to do something about its defense cos I am tired of having my heart in my mouth anytime Djorou or Koscelny is with the ball abeg.

Going Gaga over breast milk ice cream ???

Wonderful shall indeed never ended o! I was reading a story about a London restaurant that is trying out a new ice cream made from breast milk called Baby Gaga (sells for £14...too expensive?). So far the ice cream has been a hit (this can def not happen in 9ja o). Apparently, the got 15 ladies to express their breast milk for the ice cream, paying them £15 for every 10 ounces of milk donated (when these ladies top breast feeding, they will find new breast abi?). For one, I hope the ladies are checked medically or something to prevent spreading anything. But secondly, I do not know how I feel licking/drinking/eating (whatever you do to ice cream) milk from another woman's breast in my ice cream. I know in 9ja having another lady breastfeed your baby is a big deal (some will say it's a taboo sef). What do you guys think? Is enjoying this breast milk the same as letting another woman breast feed your baby?

**Oh apparently, it is not just in the UK o. Apparently, Ben & Jerry's have their own version of breast milk ice cream (picture above)

***if you have tasted any breast milk ice cream, biko let us hear about the experience o

Nursing: the profession of choice for Nigerian immigrants!

***Let me start out by saying I have nothing against nurses. You may not be a doctor, lawyer, investment banker or engineer (the professions our 9ja parents like to hear) but as a nurse, you deserve respect as well. Other than when they have to give me injection, we have no beef.

I was arguing with a friend of mine (he is pre-med so he is going to become a doctor) about this issue of Nigerians coming to the US and going into nursing as if that is the American dream they left their country for. I am very set in my stance that you can make it in Nigeria. I am not talking of the Dangotes or the yahoo boys and girls. I mean hardworking Nigerians making legal money and living well (all u gbogbo bigs boys and girls "pinking" on ur bb u know ur sefs). However, I know people who are in decent jobs in 9ja (Dora I will keep saying 9ja for as long as I like) who feel like the only way their life will have meaning is if they relocate to the US. What is even scary is that a lot of the people that think like this don't have any plan of what they will do when they get to the US. Their own is let me get there first and God will take control. (If you didn't seek God's face for direction before you left, why do you want Him to take control when you get there? Shey you can do it on your own?). The truth is that people from lower quality colleges or community colleges here in the US find it hard enough to find jobs how much more your Nigerian degree from Unilag (greatest Akokites!!!!) which they may just choose to not even recognize? So why leave a comfortable life in Nigeria (that is if you do not have longer throat and if you are patient enough to come into your wealth in due time) for uncertainty, suffering and starting from square one in the US?

How Nigeria should be affected by uprisings in Northern Africa

During the Egyptian crisis, I was particularly hesitant to follow up on the story (but im on yahoo like 24/7 and they won't let you rest with updates on the crisis). I find my self doing the same with the Libyan uprisings. Being honest with myself, I think I was scared to make the connection of what is happening in Northern Africa now to what can/will happen in Nigeria. I finally got my self to follow up on the story and here are my thoughts:

1. Compared to our North African brothers and sisters, I think we have a better, though problematic, political system in Nigeria (in so far as democracy is used to approximate a good political system). We are not oppressed by a dictator, at least not directly (though one can argue that power hasn't really changed hands in the last 12 years of democracy). I would argue that what our North African cousins endure today can be likened to our own military regime (which we let go about 12 years ago) with freedom of speech and expression and retaliation almost forbidden. In short, Nigeria and the North African region are at different stages of their political development so that an uprising like that currently ravaging North Africa isn't needed in today's Nigeria.

Comedy: Prayer for a husband o

Babes are definitely not smiling o lol

**btw, this is a clip from "4 play reloaded" the ghanaian movie. It doesn't have as much sexual content as the original "4 play" movie but both are still not for viewers younger than 18 sha.

Song of the day: Baba Dee ft Henry Knight - Gum Body (Ye ma sa)

As you would soon come to find out, I love me some 9ja music. Baba Dee is definitely no Tuface but I am feeling the song sha.

Nigerian man + fashion + color (properly done) = MAI

I personally do not think a lot of Nigerian men are comfortable with playing with colors when it comes to fashion. One reason maybe because we envision the Ibo money-miss-road(u know I love me ibo people.....ibo kwenu!!!) with his eye-catching, wrongly put together outfits (gucci ft louis vitton, produced by channel) when we think of men and colorful clothes. Another train of thought is that men stay away from colors so they do not look gay (9ja people can be so homophobic sometimes..chai) and scare the kokolets away. Anyway, MAI ATAFO is one guy that trumps all those stereotypes.

Kid(adult)napping in Lasgidi - Your enemy is indeed in your household

I know this whole kidanapping thing started in the Niger Delta (we hail o!!!!!) as a form of revolution against the exploitation of the Niger Delta people by multinational oil companies. Anyway, as we all know, it quickly degenerated into a full fledged business venture where people kidnapped solely for money and no social cause whatsoever. As usual, our ibo brothers not wanting any business opportunity to pass them by, picked up the traded and started kidnapping nollywood stars (for what biko.....a revolution in nollywood because who is discriminating against who *hiss*?......na so the film pain dem reach?) and then it moved to politicians' family members. Now it has come to lagos.

Reportedly another killing in Unilag

Awon unilag students wats the problem now. I used to think Unilag was all about swagger and who can oppress who. Notwithstanding, I thought and still think sef that it is one of the best Universities in Nigeria (not quite havard standard yet but LAG is holding its own). However, over the last few weeks it has been shooting we have been hearing about. First it was the valentine day shootout (don't they know how to be romantic and take their girl friends/boy friends out ahn ahn). Now is this one that has left another student by the name Ayodeji Sonoiki dead.

What really is in a bag that will make it cost $3.8 million!!!

Egba mi.....this oyibo people sef ki lo de. Oya first of all, this "1001 Nights Diamond purse"by House of Mouawad (the same people that created one of those victoria secret diamond encursted bras) has over 4000 diamonds to make it the world's most expensive bag. I do not know why I will carry bag that will not allow my heart to be at peace. You will definitely have to insure it (more money) and then probably carry a body guard for it. Well as they say, it is definitely not for the masses. Those of you us ;) proving gbogbo bigs girls in our $500 channel bag (or the $100 knock off version....all na still stunting so please wear your fake with pride jare) should hold our heads up high because we are still ballers among masses o.

**as a side note, if you do not have $100 for knockoff and your longer throat wants to carry the original sef, just know that the friends that will hail you and the other you oppress with the bag will not be there to carry the gbese of the bill with you........from me to you longer throats, with love :)

Blast from the past: Onyeka Onwenu - Iyogogo

Very pretty lady

Comedy: Ibo Church

I am not really sure what his name is but incase comedy doesn't work out, nna men music is another business venture for you.

Beyonce goes black(er) for Fela

Ok so there has been a lot of noise about this beyonce's pic where her face was painted black in honor of Fela kuti (more pictures below). First of all, kudos to Italian Vogue for giving due honor to Fela. However, as one of my friends suggested, is this just another marketing scheme? Maybe a way for Vogue to break into Africa? I do not know.....ki le feel? Anyway back to the main point. Apparently the photo has generated some sort of controversy because she was painted. Me I say kini big deal!

Song of the day: Demilade - Hakym

Mo gbadun song gan (excuse my up and coming yoruba). I love yoruba movies and this is a soundtrack to a movie by Laide Bakare. Makes me want to see the movie. **btw this is my first video post..yay me!!**

Welcome to my fabulous palace!!!!!!

Welcome (in all the Nigerian languages possible)!!!!!!!!! I am happy to finally get this blog off the ground after months (maybe years lol) of putting it off. I talk about everything Nigerian (and non-Nigerian as well so ma wori) from sports to fashion to entertainment to politics to business.....so hopefully there is something on here everytime for everyone. I am sure there is a lot we can learn from each other.....Enjoy!
